Is It Even Possible to Feel Enough?

A client asked me a question this week that I imagine many people have wondered at some point:

How do you ever feel enough? Is it even possible?

For her, the idea of feeling enough seemed incredibly far away. At one point she said something that captured exactly how she had been experiencing life:

“I’ve always been trying to justify myself on this planet and I get tired of it.”

There was a sense that even if feeling enough might be possible for some people, she must be missing something that would allow her to experience it too.

It’s something I hear often. People searching for the moment where they will finally feel worthy, settled, or at peace with themselves. Hoping that perhaps once something changes externally, or once they become a certain version of themselves, that feeling might arrive.

I recognise that from my own journey too. There was a long time where I was so focused on trying to fit in and be who I felt I needed to be in different situations, that I had very little awareness of what was actually happening inside of me.

During our session we spent time listening to the different parts of her that had been carrying these beliefs and feelings. Some of them were parts she had spent years trying to hide or push away. They were heard, acknowledged and understood, and as that happened she was able to connect with more Self-energy.

Towards the end of the session I invited her to turn towards the part of her that had been asking this question all along, the part that wondered whether feeling enough was even possible. When she connected with that part, I asked what it needed. Her answer was simple….

It needed to feel enough.

I gently asked if she could, just for a moment, set aside the stories and programming she had carried for so long and see whether it felt possible to let that part feel she was enough.

She said it was and so she sat there for a while allowing that feeling to be experienced.

There was emotion, as you might imagine, because for a moment she was experiencing something she had believed was impossible.

Nothing in her life had changed. The circumstances that had brought her to the session were exactly the same as they had been an hour earlier.

And yet the feeling that part of her had been searching for externally was suddenly available internally.

This is something I see again and again in this work. People often believe they are missing something essential, as though the answer lies somewhere outside of them waiting to be found. Yet when they begin turning inward with curiosity and learning to connect with their own inner system, they often discover that the feeling they have been chasing has been there all along. It has simply been covered over by the stories, beliefs and protective patterns that built up over time.

As you read this, you might notice parts of you responding. Perhaps a part saying something like that might be possible for her but it wouldn’t work for me, or I’ve tried things before and nothing changed. Those responses make complete sense. Parts often step in quickly to protect us from disappointment or from getting our hopes up about something that has felt out of reach for a long time.

It’s also important to say that the moment my client experienced didn’t happen out of nowhere. She had already been doing the work of getting curious about herself and her parts. She had taken the time to understand the different voices and stories inside of her and had begun developing a connection with Self. Without that groundwork, simply jumping straight to telling a part it is enough rarely lands in the same way. Parts need to be heard and understood before they can soften and allow something new to be experienced.

We live in a world that constantly encourages us to look outward for what we think we’re missing. More success, more approval, more certainty, more validation.

Moments like this remind me again and again that the inner work is the work. The most important work you will ever do, because when we reconnect with ourselves we often discover that what we have been searching for was never missing at all.

It was simply waiting for us to turn toward it.

If reading this has sparked some curiosity about what might be possible when you begin turning inward, and you’d like some support exploring that, my signature programme The Sisterhood begins again on 15th April. It’s designed to help you get to know the different parts of yourself and develop that deeper connection with Self.
