How are you? No really, how are you? Take a moment to think about that question. We’re all so quick to answer that with ‘I’m fine’ or ‘Good thanks’ when actually on the inside we couldn’t feel further than away from ‘fine’ or ‘good’.
That was absolutely me. When I share now how I struggled in the past with anxiety, so many friends will say to me ‘I had no idea you were struggling, you always seem to together and happy’. That’s because they saw the outside of me. The smiling face, the banter, the kind Jo. It was all an act! On the inside I was permanently terrified of making a mistake, or letting someone down and even more terrified that someone might see through the pretence. It was exhausting! Perfectionism, people pleasing and imposter syndrome were my constant companions.
I remember thinking that this was how life was going to be for me. I didn’t have any idea how to change my experience and the thought of asking someone for help would mean taking off the mask, being vulnerable and that felt scary. Also, if I’m honest I didn’t believe that I was worth spending the money on to get help and so I struggled on.
It finally got to a point when I knew there had to be more to life than this and part of me, a compassionate part that didn’t want me staying where I was, reached out and got some help. And I honestly couldn’t believe how quickly things started to change. The person I reached out to did what I was unable to do for myself at the time, they validated how I was feeling. I felt heard and seen, they got it, they understood me. I wasn’t going mad and I wasn’t broken. Working with the support of someone else, I found all my own answers to create the change I wanted.
From my own personal experiences and from working with hundreds of people, I know that, no matter what your current experience, you already have everything you need within you to create whatever you want in life. As human beings however, we find it super easy to get stuck in unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviours and stuff those resources down deep where it’s harder to find them.
Change comes when you get the awareness and understand you & your behaviours more. This gives you the answers you need to empower yourself and move forward and is exactly what we’ll be doing in The Sisterhood - Find your Happy, Find your Freedom, my group coaching programme that starts again in September. Four months worth of content (that you then get lifetime access to) to completely change your experience in life.
What could you create?
